Paperback, 128 pages, with black and white sketches and full-colour map

Co-author Peter Slingsby lived in the area covered by this book for nearly twenty years. On the fringe of one of the earth’s most beautiful wildernesses – the Kogelberg Reserve – the Fynbos Coast shares that beauty despite the concerted efforts of some of its residents and visitors. Others are sensitive and sensible, however, and this small book tells their story.

FYNBOS COAST by Peter Slingsby and Ed Coombe is a comprehensive guide to the tourist attractions and the people of this beautiful coastal area. A “travelogue” through the area forms the first section, complete with a few lurid local stories. Section 2 is a guide to flora, fauna, climate, etc., while Section 3 is a directory to many local commercial facilities of interest to tourists.

Many tourist maps available in South Africa are printed and produced overseas.
They are drawn by people who have never stepped on African soil, who would not know Cape Town from Calitzdorp or Nyanga from Knysna.
Slingsby Maps is rooted right here, the twenty-third proudly signed-up member of the Proudly South African Campaign.
