"To anyone going to the Clanwilliam area a trip out to see the rock art described in this book is a must. Taking along the book makes the paintings that much easier to find and the background info is very informative. Well done Peter and a big thanks to Haffie Strauss for sharing these wonderful sites with us."

I wrote these guides because I really dislike visiting significant places and finding no decent info available. The Sevilla Trail is one of humankind’s most significant outdoor art-galleries; it had no info book, so I wrote this one for it.

Bushmans Kloof, a lodge for the very rich, is next door to Sevilla and has its own treasure chest of rock art. Former proprietor Mark McAdam asked me to write him a book: this is the result.

Finally, the name “Cederberg” is to many synonymous with rock art, even though most of the better stuff is in the Koue Bokkeveld. That’s what this one’s about – it’s mostly art you, the ornery citizen, can visit.

Many tourist maps available in South Africa are printed and produced overseas.
They are drawn by people who have never stepped on African soil, who would not know Cape Town from Calitzdorp or Nyanga from Knysna.
